After watching Matt play for our Reserve side, I had no hesitation recommending to the manager to promote Matt to the first team. He proved to me that I made the correct decision. I have personally coached and mentored him since then, and in my personally opinion its very clear he has all the necessary attributes to be a great goalkeeper. Mr Chris Fairless - 07951978618 In the 2 seasons that I had Matt playing for our University Side at Teesside, I found him to be a dependable, reliable and consistent number 1. His shot stopping ability was first class and often kept us in close games, allowing us to go on to win many of these. His ability to distribute long, out of his hands or off the floor was fundamental in launching our fast counter attacks. I think his main attribute however is his understanding of the game and organisation of his back 4 particularly. Although still quite young at the time, he showed immense potential. It was late in the season and the team were on a promotion push, the gaffer didnt want to mess with the team, so unfortunately didnt get a lot of game time. He kept pushing in training sessions and was a joy to work with, not just as a player but also as a person .
